Practical overview

Compare the cooked records at equal weight, then include the plated amount and any sauce you add.

Nutrients at equal weight

The comparison uses two cooked records. Dry-package values use a different weight basis; sauce and oil must be calculated separately.

How to assess these alternatives

1

Changing the side in a meal

Bulgur and pasta may serve a similar role in a meal, but equal grams do not supply identical nutrients. Read the table and portion calculation together. Add the main dish, vegetables and sauces separately in the meal builder.

2

Package weight versus plated weight

Dry pasta packaging and a cooked pasta record use different weight bases. The same applies to dry and cooked bulgur. Boiling, resting and draining affect water content; do not enter dry weights into this cooked-food calculation.

3

Match the sauce and product variety

This pasta record does not automatically include cream sauce, cheese or olive oil you add. For whole-grain, egg or gluten-free pasta, choose a matching record. Bulgur is a wheat product; also check product allergen information.

Water content changes after boiling and draining. Equal dry weights do not necessarily yield equal cooked weights.

Common questions about this comparison

This guide uses a cooked record. Use a dry-food record for dry weight, or weigh the cooked edible serving.

Add pasta and sauce ingredients separately by weight in the meal builder. One cooked-pasta record does not represent the full recipe.

It is a separate record. The regular versus whole-grain pasta guide compares those two cooked records.
