Enter the values and press Calculate. Numbers outside the allowed range produce no result.
How is it calculated?
Volumetric classes: under 0.6 very low, up to 1.5 low, up to 4 medium, above that high. Vegetables are usually low; nuts and oils are high.
kcal/g = energy ÷ grams kcal/100 g = kcal/g × 100
Reference table
| Class | kcal/g |
|---|---|
| Very low | < 0,6 |
| Low | 0,6–1,5 |
| Medium | 1,5–4 |
| High | > 4 |
How should you read the result?
Low density does not automatically mean healthier. Olive oil is dense and can still be part of a meal in a measured amount.
Frequently asked questions
What is calorie density?
Calories in one gram or 100 grams. The same calories in more grams can be more filling.
Which foods are low density?
Vegetables, fruit, soup and low-fat yogurt are usually low. Frying and sauces raise density.
Per 100 g or per portion?
Density is per 100 g. The calories you eat are that density times the grams you serve.
Only low-density foods for weight loss?
No. Total calories and protein still matter. Density is one way to manage portions.
